This has become an ongoing issue not only with us, but fellow shops as well. So we want to address some new changes. Unlike other shops that are completely stopping installation of customer supplied parts, we will continue to do so with the following changes, but please understand:
We do not up-charge our parts! We charge MAP (minimum advertised price), which means that’s what you can get it for. So there’s no reason to undercut our shop. Often times, if you find it cheaper, the seller is violating their agreement with the manufacturer. For most auto shops, 50% of their revenue comes from the profit generated by the sale of parts. Labor alone is not enough to cover the expenses. In order for a shop to remain in business and have the latest & necessary tools, equipment, software, and warranties, we need to make a profit.
By providing your own parts, you have no help of our expertise to ensure it will fit your vehicle. More often than not (about 90% of the time), customers who brought their own parts got it wrong. That means, our time gets wasted, as does yours, not to mention the cost, and the hassle of having to return parts and order the correct ones. Why go through that when you’re not saving money? It’s also risky. The parts you supplied may not have everything you need to ensure your vehicle performs correctly, parts may be poor quality, etc. When we quote you, we are using our experience and expertise to recommend a compatible product that has what you need and we’re not going to recommend something that is poor quality.
Please do not think we are being vindictive or negative with this agreement. We have wasted so much time, energy, and lost so much profit, and we need to get a handle on it. That said, the following will be in affect going forward. (Updated 1/21/26)
PRICING:
Labor to install customer supplied parts will be an additional 20%.
LIMITED WARRANTY:
Any work performed with customer supplied parts carries NO warranty or guarantee on any parts, labor, or services. The only warranty you will receive is between yourself and the manufacturer of the part, if they offer one.
ADVICE:
We will not advise you on what parts to purchase yourself, or provide links so you can get them yourself. Please don’t expect us to not get paid for our efforts.
AGREEMENT:
- You agree that in supplying your own parts, you are ultimately responsible for any and all labor incurred, regardless of quoted amount, at the 20% higher rate, even if the item you supplied is wrong, doesn’t work, has fitment issues, missing parts, or not enough items are provided to complete the repair. If it causes a repair bay to be unavailable for other jobs, you will be charged for all time incurred & for the time the bay is tied up. That includes taking it apart and putting it back together, even though no part was installed.
- You agree to the financial risk of providing your own parts. You understand that the final cost may exceed the original quoted amount due to complications with install, or requiring modification or additional steps. This includes specialty or custom parts that do not include instructions, and require trial and error to assemble or install, resulting in additional labor. You also understand that the final cost will not be the same as a quote provided to you to perform the repairs using our parts.
- You assume all responsibility to contact the Seller or Manufacturer of the parts you purchased in the event there is an issue. We will not contact them on your behalf unless you purchased them through us.
- You assume all liability for future failure of the part you furnished, and the vehicle it was installed on, resulting from the installation of the part, and agree to hold us harmless and assume all costs on your own.
